Sudan’s Unfolding Crisis: A Warning from the UN

In the midst of a relentless seven-month conflict between Sudan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a senior UN official issued a dire warning. Clementine Nkweta-Salami, the UN humanitarian coordinator for Sudan, grimly describes the situation as “verging on pure evil,” with reports of sexual violence, forced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and violations of human and children’s rights causing escalating concern.

Humanitarian Crisis: Urgent Needs and Health System Collapse

Since April, approximately six million people have been displaced, and 25 million urgently require humanitarian assistance. Over 70 percent of health institutions in conflict zones are non-operational, contributing to alarming outbreaks of cholera, dengue fever, malaria, measles, and severe malnutrition among children.

UN Appeal for Aid: Seeking $2.6 Billion for 12 Million People

In response to the escalating crisis, the UN urgently requests $2.6 billion to provide assistance to 12 million affected individuals. Amidst disturbing reports of killings, rapes, and widespread village devastation, concerns are rising that Darfur may face atrocities reminiscent of the region’s tragic history 20 years ago.
