The Chairperson of the African Union urges the UN to increase the number of African Union seats at the G20

The status of affairs on a global scale is extremely precarious, as seen by escalating prices, a warming climate, and ongoing violent wars. Macky Sall, President of Senegal and Chairperson of the African Union, spoke at the 77th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday. He talked about how dangerous terrorism is.

“The issue that the terrorist movement is making progress across the continent is not unique to Africa.” Because it is a global risk, the United Nations Charter gives the Security Council, which is in charge of the collective security system, the main responsibility for dealing with it. “It is up to the Security Council, which is in charge of the collective security system, to deal with it,” he said.

Throughout this, the first general assembly that took place in person since 2020, President Sall reaffirmed his appeal for a more effective representation of the African continent in the arena of international politics. He stated, “I would also like to remind you of our request for the African Union to be granted a seat within the G20, so that Africa can, at long last, be represented where decisions are taken that affect 1,400,000,000 Africans.” Another one of the Senegalese President’s requests was for the sanctions against Zimbabwe to be lifted.
