Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed AlNahyan, recently attended the opening session of the 19th G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil, where the UAE is participating as a guest country on behalf of President His HighnessSheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.At the meeting, Sheikh Khaled delivered the UAE’s speech, conveying Sheikh Mohamed’sgreetings to the leaders and heads of state attending the summit, and wishing the G20 summitevery success. He also expressed his gratitude to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President ofBrazil, for inviting the UAE to participate in the G20 Summit, praising Brazil’s efforts toensure the success of the summit.UAE allocates $100 million to fight hunger and povertySheikh Khaled welcomed the launch of theGlobal Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty atthe G20 summit, stressing its importance as a step forward in developing global policies thatprovide sustainable solutions and resources. Confirming the UAE’s commitment to itspartnership with the G20, Sheikh Khaled announced that the UAE was allocating $100million through the UAE Aid Agency, aligning itself with the alliance’s global efforts.He also stressed the UAE’s commitment to supporting global initiatives to fight hunger andpoverty at regional and international levels, thereby strengthening efforts to promotedevelopment, peace and prosperity.Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince is accompanied by an official delegation comprising Reem AlHashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister ofState, Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment, Saif Saeed Ghobash, SecretaryGeneral of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, Saleh Ahmad Salem Alsuwaidi, UAEAmbassador to Brazil, and Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Deputy Managing Director ofthe Mubadala Group.Global alliance against hunger and povertyAt the G20 summit, participants launched the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty.The alliance aims to accelerate global efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty. Among theannouncements and commitments is the goal of reaching 500 million people with cashtransfer programmes in low- and lower-middle income countries by 2030.Additionally, it seeks to extend quality school meals to an additional 150 million children incountries where child poverty and hunger are endemic, while mobilising billions of dollars in credits and grants through multilateral development banks to implement these and otherprogrammes.G20 SummitFrom November 18 to 19, the 19th G20 Summit is being held in Rio de Janeiro under thetheme ‘Building a just world and a sustainable planet’. The sessions focus on key globalissues, including strengthening global governance, fighting hunger and poverty, climatechallenges, the transition to clean and renewable energy, and promoting global andsustainable development in the social, economic and environmental sectors.The UAE will be attending the G20 summit for the fifth time as a guest, following Brazil thisyear, India in 2023, Indonesia in 2022, Saudi Arabia in 2020 and France in 2011.
