The US introduced late Wednesday that it no longer considers Alexander Lukashenko the legit president of Belarus, hours after he used to be officially sworn in for a seventh term.
“The United States cannot reflect onconsideration on Aleksandr Lukashenko the legitimately elected leader of Belarus,” stated a State Department spokesperson in a statement, according to the Axios news website.
“The route ahead be a national speak leading to the Belarusian people playing their right to pick out their leaders in a free and fair election underneath independent observation,” the declaration said.
Lukashenko’s swearing-in ceremony took vicinity at Independence Palace in the capital Minsk, the presidential press office said in a statement.
After the ceremony, he said Belarusians now not solely re-elected their president, they “defended peaceful existence and sovereignty in Belarus.”
Protests broke out after Lukashenko, who has served as president due to the fact that 1994, was once declared the winner of Aug. 9 polls. Opposition candidates, however, accused the administration of rigging the vote.
NATO and European leaders have entreated Lukashenko to launch a speak with the opposition and admire the critical human rights of Belarus’ citizens.
