A bus transporting university students smashed and overturned on a highway in northeastern Egypt, resulting in at least 12 deaths and 33 injuries. The Ain Sokhna Highway is where the tragedy happened, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health’s announcement on Monday.
Galala University students from Suez were on board. The driver has been arrested as part of an investigation into the accident, as reported by local media, and they were travelling on the new Galala highway to get back to their dorm in the Ain Sokhna resort after classes. The accident’s cause was kept hidden by the ministry.
The statement from Monday night mentioned that 28 ambulances responded to the scene and took the injured people to the Suez Medical Complex, but it avoided mentioning how they are doing. Ministers of High Education Ayman Ashour and Health Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar sent their condolences to the families of the deceased students.
In Egypt, these kinds of situations are not unusual. Thousands of people in the nation lose their lives in road accidents each year. Bad roads, speeding and insufficient enforcement of traffic laws are the main causes of these crashes.
