Police in Kampala are maintaining seven suspects in connection with murder and aggravated robbery.

They are accused of killing and robbing Muhammad Kasozi, a resident of Kitezi in Kasangati Town Council, Wakiso District, on May 10. Kasozi used to be reportedly lured from his administrative center in Mpererwe-Kalerwe in Kampala to Kasubi to sell maize in Luweero District, positioned about 65kms away. Investigations point out that when he reached Luweero, one of the suspects, who had employed him from Kalerwe drove him off the street to an isolated hairy region where they met different people.

The suspect instructed Kasozi that they have been the maize loaders.  However, Kasozi grew to be suspicious and obtained out of the vehicle to see whether or not the truck could turn at the spot when you consider that there used to be no road. “As soon as the driver (Kasozi) came out of the vehicle, the suspects grabbed him and strangled him,” Mr Charles Twine, the CID spokesperson,  said yesterday. He said Kasozi’s physique used to be identified by means of a resident who located a paper in the deceased’s pocket which had a contact of his wife.

When the wife arrived in Luweero,  she tested it was her husband’s body. She known as police who took the physique to Mulago sanatorium for a post-mortem. “The deceased had a national identity card and pocket book that contained some numbers. It is the place police began to do the investigation,” Mr Twine said.

He said the deceased’s vehicle was driven to DR Congo where it was sold at $1,620 (about Shs6m).

The money was shared by the seven suspects. Mr Twine said the seven suspects have been linked to other robberies, including one in Kalerwe where a vehicle was stolen and also sold in DR Congo.
