USA – League Cup: Bongokuhle Hlongwane joins Lionel Messi as top scorer

On the morning of Wednesday, Minnesota United took on Deportivo Toluca in the League Cup Round of 8. In a very intense match, South Africa’s Bongokuhle Hlongwane made a major contribution to his side’s 2-2 win (2-4 on penalties). He joins Messi at the top of the goalscoring charts.

In the first half, team-mate Joseph Rosales opened the scoring in the 13th minute. The South African striker then showed his brilliance by scoring a second spectacular goal in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0. In a magnificent team move, the ball was delivered to him in the penalty area. Hlongwane picked out the goalkeeper and two defenders, taking his time before finishing successfully.
