Nigerian football star Victor Osimhen has expressed his appreciation to the organizers of the 2023 Ghana Football Awards after being named the Best African Player of the Year.
Osimhen was announced as the winner at the award ceremony held on June 25, 2023, at the Grand Arena, Accra International Conference Center.
The talented striker was nominated for the award alongside top footballers Riyad Mahrez and Mohamed Salah.
Despite the tough competition, Osimhen emerged victorious due to his outstanding performance during the 2022-2023 season with Napoli.
During the season, Osimhen scored an impressive 31 goals across all competitions, playing a crucial role in Napoli’s Serie A title victory after more than three decades.
He also broke the long-standing record set by George Weah for the most goals scored by an African player in Serie A history, with 26 league goals. Osimhen’s exceptional performance earned him the best striker award and the league’s golden boot.
In response to winning the Best African Player award at the 2023 Ghana Football Awards, Osimhen expressed his gratitude to those who voted for him in an online video.
He thanked the organizers of the Ghana Football Awards for their support and recognition. Osimhen considered it a great privilege and honor to receive the award, promising to continue making Africa proud.
His heartfelt message was shared on the official Ghana Football Awards Twitter account, where Osimhen expressed his appreciation and acknowledged the love and support he received.
