Kenya intends to intensify social media control. A strategy to counter what it refers to as “digital abuse” is being developed by the current government. Social media companies doing business in the nation have been directed to carefully monitor and take action against “violent, hateful and unbalanced content.”
According to the interior ministry, Kenyans are ignoring the boundaries of free expression and using social media carelessly. Concerns about Kenyans “misinforming the world” about the actions of the Kenyan government on the internet have also been expressed by the country’s foreign and diaspora ministries. This occurs while a large number of Kenyans are venting their frustrations with the administration on social media.
