Kenya Kwanza, a Kenyan political alliance currently headed by Kenyan President William Ruto, aims to secure a deal with Azimio political party in order to end the anti-government protests.
Azimio political party has come under intense pressure from Kenya Kwanza political leaders and religious leaders to call off the planned protests scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
However, Raila Amolo Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party, said that Kenyans should brace for a demonstration. He reportedly said, “Starting on Wednesday, be ready for the game-changing Maandamano.”
However, Ruto vowed to stop more violent demonstrations. He said that he would deal with the anti-government protests.
Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party, a Kenyan political alliance and party headed by Raila Odinga, aims to put pressure on William Ruto’s government to address various issues of the country, including the high cost of living.
Two Kenya Kwanza MPs said that talks were underway to seek a truce. The MPs confirmed that they reached out to the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party.
Meanwhile, a High Court in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, has declined to block Azimio protests in a case filed against retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The petitioner, Martin Gitau, had filed an application seeking an order to stop the scheduled mass protests organized by the Azimio Coalition. Martin Gitau said that the protests can further increase the problems for people in the country. He said that similar protests in the past led to the loss of lives and the destruction of properties. However, the High Court refused to stop the protest. He also sued Uhuru but did not explain what role he played in the demonstrations.
