Russia and Niger are setting out to strengthen bilateral ties by founding an NGO. Launched in a ceremony in Niamey, the capital city of Niger, the NGO is called Ensemble main dans la main Niger-Russie, or “Together hand in hand Niger-Russia.” By promoting collaboration in several fields, including science, education, the arts, sports, culture, and development, the initiative aims to fortify relations between the peoples of Niger and Russia.
The Russian news source Sputnik reported that the founders of the NGO stressed the need for improving ties between the two nations and the growing interest in Russia and Niger in recent years. They committed to taking actual steps to enhance mutual understanding and cooperation.
With the opening of the “Russian Space” Center for Russian Language and Culture in Niamey earlier this year, Niger significantly advanced cross-cultural communication. Completed in cooperation with the Russian government and the People’s Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), this project aims to promote Russian language study and improve cultural and educational exchanges between Niger and Russia.
The center’s objectives are to organize adult and child activities, educational outreach projects, and scientific and educational events. Faculty and students at Abdou Moumouni University of Niamey have enthusiastically welcomed the initiative, suggesting a growing interest in learning more about Russia and its language.
More understanding and collaboration between Niger and Russia are expected to develop as long as initiatives like the Center for Russian Language and Culture and the recently established NGO support their partnership.
