Zambia among Africa’s fastest-growing economies by 2025

According to the latest report from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Zambia is among the ten African countries expected to record the strongest economic growth in 2025.

The report forecasts that Zambia’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 6.6%, making it the sixth fastest-growing economy on the continent.

The IMF attributes this growth forecast to improved weather conditions and the resolution of supply chain issues that have previously slowed economic activity. These developments offer Zambia the opportunity to strengthen its economic base and drive recovery in key sectors.

The Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) was optimistic about this projection, describing it as achievable given the ongoing government reforms.

EAZ National Secretary Nicholas Mainza emphasised that the re-opening and expansion of mining activities is essential to the country’s economic recovery. He noted that these activities, combined with structural adjustments, could pave the way for sustainable economic progress.

Zambia’s growth potential is also being supported by increased investment in key sectors and the implementation of reforms aimed at stabilising the economy.

The improved conditions mean that the country is in a position to achieve its planned economic expansion and strengthen its position as one of Africa’s leading economies.

The IMF report suggests a promising outlook for Zambia as it seeks to capitalize on these positive developments to promote economic prosperity.
