CAN 2024 will begin on January 13, 2024 with a meeting between Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau, in Abidjan. The organizing country will want to do better than during the 2021 edition where Ivory Coast was knocked out in the round of 16 by Egypt. The Ivorians will be able to count on Seko Fofana in particular. The former captain of RC Lens made his return to the selection last October. Ivory Coast has not won the African Cup of Nations since the 2015 edition (victory against Ghana). Furthermore, Ivory Coast is hosting the CAN for the first time since 1984.
Title holders, Senegal will begin their CAN 2024 with a match against Gambia, which is participating in the competition for the second time in its history. For its first participation in 2021, Gambia impressed by reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.
