ChatGPT, a chatbot launched by OpenAI, became the fastest-growing app in the world by reaching 100 million users in a short span of two months.
The popular artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot had 13 million daily users in January. It was launched in November 2022. According to a report by SimilarWeb, the chatbot attracted about 25 million visitors per day over the past week.
ChatGPT has reportedly overtaken other social media apps, including Instagram and TikTok, which took 2.5 years and 9 months, respectively, to reach 100 million users. Facebook took four years, Snapchat and Myspace took three years, and Google almost a year to cross 100 million users. UBS-based research on Similarweb data noted, “In 20 years following the Internet space, we cannot recall a faster ramp in a consumer internet app.”
The AI chatbot has been developed by tech billionaire Elon Musk-backed OpenAI. The chatbot is built on top of OpenAI’s GPT-3 family of large language models.
The chatbot is getting popular around the world because it gives users instant answers to any questions or queries. It has been making waves on the Internet ever since its launch because it gives human-like responses to questions raised by social media users. The chatbot also helps by solving complex coding problems.
Recently, Microsoft said that ChatGPT would soon come to the aid of its Teams Premium users. Gmail’s creator Paul Buccheit also said that ChatGPT may replace Google in the next two years.
ChatGPT was launched as a free application on 30 November 2022. However, in just two months, OpenAI introduced its pilot subscription plan to use ChatGPT. Subscription to the pilot plan offers a faster edition of ChatGPT. The premium version will cost social media users $20 a month.
