Daniel Chukwudumebi Okoh has been elected the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). The General Secretary of CAN, Joseph Daramola, announced the news in Abuja.
On Wednesday, CAN will hold a general assembly to usher in the new administration. This marks the end of the tenure of outgoing President, Samson Olasupo Adeniyi Ayokunle, commonly known as Supo Ayokunle, and members of the national executive under his team.
Okoh has thanked all Nigerians for their support and prayers. Reportedly, CAN’s pre-assembly, symposium and NEC meeting will begin today.
The general assembly will hold dinner tomorrow. The beginning of the new transition will take place on July 29.
The Christian Association of Nigeria is made up of five blocs: Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN)/Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), TEKAN and ECWA Fellowship.
Daniel Chukwudumebi Okoh is the General Superintendent of Christ Holy Church, also known as Nation Builders. He is a board member of the African Council of Religious Leaders. He will now co-chair the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC) alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.
He was also the President of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC). He became the first from the OAIC bloc of the Christian Association of Nigeria to hold the position.
He was born on November 12, 1963, in Kano, a city in northern Nigeria and the capital of Kano State, to Christian parents. He attended Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha, Anambra. He graduated from the University of Port Harcourt in 1998. He also attended Christ Holy Church Seminary, Onitsha, and bagged a diploma in Theology.
