David Warner Hits Century In 100th Test Against South Africa

Australian famous cricketer David Warner hit a century on Tuesday against the South African cricket team in his 100th Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

This was Warner’s first Test century since January 2020. With today’s match, Warner became the 10th man in Test history of cricket to score a century in his 100th Test. He is the second Australian after Ricky Ponting to score a century in the 100th Test. He also became the second cricketer to score a century in both his 100th ODI (One Day International) and 100th Test, after Gordon Greenidge, former Barbadian cricketer. Warner also made history to become the eighth Australian to pass 8000 Test runs during the course of his innings.

In the match, Australia lost two wickets quickly. Warner and Steve Smith had to prove their worth. Warner remains unbeaten on 32 and his side 45-1 at the close. Warner along with Smith pushed Australia to a 42-run lead on day two of the second Test match. Australia were 231/2 in response to South Africa’s first innings 189, with Warner 135 not out and Smith on 60. The duo built a 156-run partnership.

Smith and Warner received severe backlash from prominent cricketers and fans in 2018.

Warner was the former captain of the Australian national team in the limited overs format and a former test vice-captain. However, the 2018 scandal affected his captaincy.

The third match between Australia and South Africa is scheduled to start on 4 January at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
