Elon Musk’s Tesla Unveils Optimus Gen 2, Next Generation Humanoid Robot

Tesla, an American multinational automotive and clean energy company owned by tech billionaire Elon Musk, has unveiled “Optimus Gen 2”, a new generation of its humanoid robot, which has the ability to take over repetitive tasks from humans.

“Optimus Gen 2”, also known as Tesla Bot, has a similar silhouette as the Optimus Gen 1. However, the arms of Gen 2 have been revised to give a more human-like movement.

The humanoid robot can be versatile enough to replace human labor. However, this cannot be achievable in the short term.

Tesla Unveils Optimus Gen 2

Tesla’s Optimus Gen 2 is 10 kg lighter than the previous version. Gen 2 is faster than Gen 1. The company has claimed that the robot has a 30% walk speed boost. The feet of the robot mimic the feet of human beings. It follows the human foot geometry.

Tesla’s Optimus Gen 2 has better balance and full-body control. The robot also has new hands. Tesla claims the robot has tactile sensing on all fingers.

In the demonstration video by Tesla, the Optimus Gen 2 robot has been shown picking and setting delicate eggs from the tray to the boiler. Optimus Gen 2 robots can also dance, which is commendable.

Tesla claims that the bi-pedal and autonomous humanoid robot has the capability of performing unsafe, repetitive, or boring tasks.

In the video, the robot could also be seen performing a squat while balancing itself. Robots are also able to be precise enough to handle delicate objects.

Tesla will soon start using the robot in its own manufacturing operations. Tesla also plans to start selling the robot. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said that the demand for robots could be as high as 10 to 20 billion units.

Last month, a new report highlighted the plight of Tesla workers at Texas factory. A casting machine exploded and a robot allegedly gored a worker at a Tesla factory in Texas.
