NEWS: Rwanda appreciates its teachers

Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Monday paid tribute to the country’s teachers on World Teachers’ Day.

“Let’s take a moment to recognize our teachers, in particular in this challenging time. Students and mother and father comprehend your indispensable service, now extra than ever. Let’s work collectively to reopen our school rooms safely and get again to learning,” Kagame posted on Twitter on Monday.

According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), World Teachers’ Day has been held annually on October 5 due to the fact that 1994.

The day presents the event to celebrate the instructing profession worldwide, take inventory of achievements and draw interest to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the international education goal of leaving no one behind.

Unesco said this year’s theme for World Teachers’ Day is “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future”.

“It is no exaggeration to say that the world is at a crossroads and, now more than ever, we need to work with teachers to guard the proper to education and information it into the unfolding landscape introduced about by means of the pandemic,” said Unesco.

“The problem of teacher leadership in relation to crisis responses is now not simply timely however imperative in terms of the contributions teachers have made to provide far off learning, guide susceptible populations, reopen schools and ensure that gaining knowledge of gaps have been mitigated.”

Minister of Education in Rwanda Dr Valentine Uwamariya said: “I want you a comfortable day and I would like to inform you that we will think about your irrevocable role in making fantastic schooling possible.

Let us proceed to work collectively to improve the training of Rwandan young people by way of taking the lead in difficult instances and thinking collectively about the future of education.”
