Nigerian troops in the northeastern country killed at least eight senior Boko Haram leaders, an official said on Sunday.
John Enenche, Nigerian Defense Ministry spokesperson, told reporters about an airstrike targeting Boko Haram in Borno province’s Goski town.
Enenche said during the operation all the shelters used by Boko Haram and logistics supplies were lost.
Boko Haram began a violent Northeastern Nigerian uprising in 2009 but later spread its massacres to neighboring Niger , Chad and Cameroon, triggering a military response.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, more than 30 000 people have been killed and nearly 3 million displaced in a decade of Boko Haram’s unrest in Nigeria.
According to the UN Refugee Agency, violence perpetrated by Boko Haram has impacted some 26 million people in the area of Lake Chad, and displaced 2,6 million others.
