Top 10 Poorest States In Nigeria In 2022

Nigeria, an African country on the Gulf of Guinea, has 36 states. Each state is famous for its beauty. However, some states are known for their poverty level. Some states are rich while some states are poor. Today, we will talk about the top 10 poorest states in Nigeria in 2022. 

1. Sokoto

Sokoto State is the poorest state in Nigeria with an average poverty rate of 81.2 per cent. Its hostile climate has made it a no-go zone, preventing foreigners and foreign investors from investing in the state. It is also the seat of the Caliphate.

2. Katsina

Located in the deepest part of the northern region of Nigeria, Katsina State is on the list of the poorest states in Nigeria because it has little or no stable investment or income-generating industries. People don’t get opportunity for investment and growth.

3. Adamawa

The economy of Adamawa State has been decimated as a result of its people fleeing the state for security reasons due to repeated attacks by Boko Haram militants. It has had a negative impact on the state, which now has a poverty rate of 74.2 per cent. It is also the seat of the Caliphate.

4. Gombe

Gombe state in northeastern Nigeria has experienced its own security threats, with a battered economy and a poverty rate of 73.2 per cent. Sometimes, people do not want to visit the state because of security reasons. 

5. Jigawa

A state in the northwestern region of Nigeria is populated primarily by the Hausa/Fulani people. Jigawa State has a poverty rate of 72.1 per cent due to low literacy and slow economic growth. People have a hard time learning different things.

6. Kebbi

Kebbi is a state in the northwestern region of Nigeria. The capital is Birnin Kebbi. The state is also among the top ten states with the highest poverty rates in the country. It has a 72 per cent of poverty rating. 

7. Plateau

Despite the fact that Plateau State is one of the most populous states in Nigeria, it has certain tourist attractions. However, the state has been ravaged by a long-running tribal conflict that has ravaged its economy by 71 per cent.

8. Zamfara

Zamfara is one of the poorest states in the country in 2022 with a poverty rate of 70.8 per cent. Strife, disease and famine have a significant impact on the population of this state. Sometimes, people refrain from travelling to the state.

9. Ebonyi

Unfortunately, due to poverty, illiteracy and poor governance, it is the only state in the South East zone of the country to rank among the worst states in Nigeria with a poverty rate of 70.6 per cent.

10. Bauchi

Bauchi is one of the poorest states in the country according to the National Bureau of Statistics. According to statistics, most of the residents in this area lack the basic necessities of life and it is a war-torn place. Many people have died as a result of insurgent attacks in the state.
