Residents of Nairobi react to Kenyatta’s Pandora leaks

Nairobi – On Sunday, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, a Washington, DC-based network of reporters and media organizations, disclosed financial data that revealed a relationship between international leaders and hidden wealth. The records include 35 current and previous national presidents, as well as 330 parliamentarians, and are based on data from 91 countries.

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is one of the leaders identified in the damaging 2.94 terabyte exhibit known as “Panama Papers. The 59-year-old president has been at the forefront of the fight against corruption in recent years. The Panama Papers, meanwhile, revealed that members of his family had hidden their personal fortune of $30 million in tax havens for years.

Activists in Kenya have previously protested the behavior of hiding their wealth from public scrutiny.”Kenyans assumed that because he came from the richest family in the country, he would not steal or engage in questionable business.

However, it is extremely obscure when a president has offshore accounts. He is in the same category as drug dealers, money launderers, tax evaders, tax cheats, and other criminals. ” Boniface Mwangi, a Kenyan social-political activist, echoed this sentiment. President Uhuru Kenyatta visited Ethiopia on an overseas visit and will fly to the Caribbean next time.

Kenyatta remarked in a written statement given by his office: “The Pandora Papers have drawn my attention due to several comments. While I will answer fully when I return from my State Visit to the Americas, allow me to state the following: “That these reports will contribute significantly to the financial transparency and openness that Kenya and the rest of the world require.

In an atmosphere of secrecy and darkness, illicit funds, proceeds of crime, and corruption thrive. For individuals who cannot explain their holdings or riches, the Pandora Papers and subsequent follow-up audits will lift the curtain of secrecy and darkness. Thank you.
