Nigeria, an African country in the Gulf of Guinea, is famous for its gigantic population. The country has various tribes and is famous for its cultural diversity. Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa are three major tribes in the country. However, there are 371 tribes in the country. Today, we will talk about the top 10 richest tribes in Nigeria in 2024.

1. Igbo

Igbo is the richest tribe in Nigeria. The Igbo people are found in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States. The tribe also has the highest number of the richest people in Nigeria. Arthur Eze, Allen Onyema, Obi Cubana, Cosmos MadukaDiezani Alison-madueke and Stella Oduah are some of the richest people from the Igbo tribe.

2. Yoruba

The people from the Yoruba tribe mainly live in southwest Nigeria. The Yoruba tribe has various rich people such as Mike Adenuga, Femi Otedola, Folorunsho Alakija and Jimoh Ibrahim. It is the second richest tribe in Nigeria.

3. Hausa

The Hausa are the largest ethnic group in Nigeria. Aliko Dangote from the Hausa tribe is one of the richest men in Nigeria. He is a Nigerian billionaire and the CEO of the Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.

4. Fulani

Fulani is one of the richest tribes in Nigeria. They are often regarded as the world’s largest nomadic group. The current President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, is from the Fulani tribe. It is one of the most powerful tribes in the country.

5. Edo

Edo, also known as the Bini tribe, is the fifth richest tribe in Nigeria. Mitchell Elegbe, the CEO and Managing Director of Interswitch, is from the Edo tribe. The Edo tribe are primarily found in Edo State, the Southern part of Nigeria.

6. Isoko

The Isoko tribe is one of the smallest tribes in the Niger Delta region. However, the tribe has produced various famous individuals. Benedict Peter, the CEO of AITEO group; Tony Elumelu, the chairman of United Bank of Africa; and Jim Ovia, one of the richest real estate investors, are from the Isoko tribe. 

7. Ijaw

The Ijaw tribe is one of the richest tribes in Nigeria. The Ijaw people can be found in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Ondo and Edo states. Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, the former president of Nigeria, is from the Ijaw tribe.

8. Tiv

The Tiv tribe could be found in Benue State, Nassarawa, Plateau, Taraba and Cross River. The tribe constitutes approximately 2.4 per cent of Nigeria’s total population. Barnabas Iyorhyer, Betty Abah, Benson Abounu, Jerry Agada, George Akume and Moses Adasu are some of the richest people from this tribe.

9. Kanuri

The Kanuri tribe is the ninth richest tribe in Nigeria in 2022. They can be found in Borno, Niger and Yobe States. Mohammed Indimi, Yahaya Adamu, Ibrahim Abacha, Daniel k Daniel and Tukur Buratai are some of the richest people from this tribe.

10. Ibibio

The Ibibio are one of the largest tribes in Nigeria. Goddy Jedy, Hogan Bassey, Godswill Akpabio and Obong Attah are some of the richest people from this tribe. The Ibibio people can be found in Akwa Ibom, Benue and Cross River.
