SA20, South Africa’s domestic T20 league, began selling tickets on Monday in Johannesburg.
According to a press release from SA20, SA20 Commissioner Graeme Smith and South African music legends Sho Madjozi, Mi Casa, and DJTimo ODV demonstrated to the media and special guests present how cricket and entertainment would converge to make a blockbuster first SA20 League next year.
Fans will be able to watch exciting young talent like Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, and Donovan Ferreira play with seasoned veterans like ICC Men’s T20 World-Cup winning captain Jos Buttler, Faf du Plessis, and Kagiso Rabada for prices ranging from R50 (about Rs 235/-) to R200 (Rs 940/-).
Children under the age of six will be admitted free of charge, and scholars and retirees will receive a 30% discount.
From 10 January, when MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals play in the opening local derby match at Newlands, SA20 will offer nonstop “sportainment,” with the grand final of the 33-game tournament scheduled for 11 February at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.
The League Commissioner, Graeme Smith, stated that “the momentum is mounting. We have collaborated closely with the franchise teams to establish affordable ticket prices that will allow fans to attend multiple games. We invite everyone to join us in January and February for a taste of SA20, including cricket fans, people looking for a social day out with friends, and families.”
When she stopped renowned comedian Joey Rasdien and the proceedings to entertain everyone to a boisterous music show, Madjozi turned a typical news conference on its head.
The six new SA20 franchises were unveiled to the public, and to add to the excitement, fellow South African band MiCasa and a few DJs were there.
“I’m overjoyed to be here. I have a strong passion for cricket, and I’m very enthusiastic about SA20 since it allows me to combine that passion with my music and global franchise businesses. I am very excited for the games to begin,” Madjozi said.
All 33 games will only be broadcast live on SuperSport in Sub-Saharan Africa and Viacom18 Sports, India’s newest sports network, to the country’s ardent and cricket-loving audience.
Fans should keep an eye out for ticket discounts in the weeks leading up to the event. All six venues are offering a limited number of opportunities for fans to attend cricket’s largest party, including the chance to turn fours into sixes.
We are in for explosive entertainment, according to Smith. “Fans can look forward to quality and competitive cricket from the world-class players participating, add to that a host of newly crowned ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champions including Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Sam Curran, Phil Salt and Harry Brooks,” he said.
