Sha’Carri Richardson Wins 100m In 10.82s At US Championships

Sha’Carri Richardson, the vibrant sprint star, claimed victory in the women’s 100 meters at the US championships with a time of 10.82 seconds. 

This achievement comes two years after her national title was stripped due to a doping violation. 

Richardson, known for her colorful style, removed her signature orange wig before the race and proved herself as a top contender in the sport.

In an interview following her win, Richardson acknowledged her past struggles, including testing positive for marijuana at the 2021 Olympic Trials. 

However, she stated that she is now mentally, physically, and emotionally ready to compete. Richardson expressed her determination by saying, “I’m not back, I’m better.”

Richardson will have the opportunity to solidify her status at the upcoming world championships, where she will participate in her first major international meet. 

Brittany Brown (10.90) and Tamari Davis (10.99) secured second and third place, respectively, in the women’s 100 meters.

On the men’s side, Cravont Charleston caused an upset by winning the men’s 100 meters in 9.95 seconds, narrowly defeating 2019 world champion Christian Coleman by a mere 0.01 seconds. 

Charleston, competing in his first major final, expressed his goal of winning at the world championships.

Noah Lyles, who recently recovered from COVID-19, finished third in the men’s 100 meters and will compete in the 200 meters, where he is the defending world champion. 

The US team for the world championships includes several defending champions, such as Fred Kerley, Athing Mu, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

Sha’Carri Richardson’s impressive performance this season has shown her potential to become a leading sprinter.

She ran the fastest time in the 100 meters this year, clocking 10.71 seconds in the opening heats of the US championships.

Richardson is attempting to move forward with her determination and leave behind the controversies that have spoiled her career.

However, in the Jamaican National trials, Shericka Jackson broke Richardson’s one-day record by setting a new World Lead of 10.65 seconds. 

Jackson’s impressive performance secured her spot at the World Athletics Championships and added further competition to the event.

Sha’Carri Richardson has set the fastest time in the women’s 100m this year, making her a strong contender to represent the USA at the World Athletics Championships. 

Richardson also became the sixth-fastest woman in the history of the sport. She may challenge legendary athletes like Usain Bolt & others’ records.
