Shubman Gill, an Indian international cricketer who plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is the only cricketer in history to reach the triple-digit score in four different forms of cricket in the same year.
India’s shining star set history by scoring a century in Test, ODI (One Day International), T20I and IPL in the same calendar year. The right-handed batsman scored 101 runs off 58 balls in a match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Monday, creating history.
Earlier this year, he scored 208 runs off 149 balls in an ODI match against New Zealand in Hyderabad. He scored 126* off 99 balls in a T20 match against New Zealand in Ahmedabad with a strike rate of 200. He also scored 128 runs in the test match against Australia this year.
In the ongoing IPL season, he has bagged four centuries with a strike rate of 146.19.
On Monday, Gujarat Titans won by 34 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL match, becoming the first team to qualify for the playoffs. Gill was also awarded “Player of the Match” on Monday.
Sunil Gavaskar, a former cricketer who represented India and Bombay from 1971 to 1987, praised Gill for setting a unique record. He reportedly said, “Dream innings. At this age you bat like that, the sky is the limit.”
Krishnamachari Srikkanth, a former captain of the Indian cricket team, also praised Gill. Krishnamachari compared him with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. He said, “I just can imagine Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar playing these shots. The straight drive Gill plays on the rise off the fast bowlers is just like Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar. He has got that same straight drive, back lift.”
