Somali Unity Strengthens in Fight Against Terrorism

The Somali president supports their military forces to eliminate the threats from Al-Shabaab, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda. The Somali National Army successfully recovered important regions while damaging extremist bases. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visits military outposts to boost the fighting spirit of his forces and demonstrate that the government fights terrorism. Together with outside partners, these efforts help to establish peace in the nation. The military battles against terrorists continues despite their attempts to target the nation. Leadership and public backing empower Somalia to confront and stop terrorism in order to bring peace to the nation.

How is the Somali Army Achieving Success Against Militants?

The Somali National Army and local forces jointly conduct anti-terrorist operations against locations where terrorists live. Carrying out synchronized operations against Al-Shabaab extremists resulted in killing 200 militants and taking back large areas that jihadists previously held. Such actions proved successful across Galmudug, South West State, and Jubaland.

Regional joint operations support and boost these accomplishments even further. Local forces of Puntland achieved one of the biggest counter-IS operations in recent times when they seized 250 square kilometers including 50 bases from the militants. The United States military performed an airstrike that eliminated Islamic State operatives from their Somali cave base.

What Role Do Leadership Visits Play in Boosting Morale?

Somalia’s President Mohammad leads frontline military group success by meeting with units frequently. During his tour to Moqokori district President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke directly to SNA commanders and Ma’awisley soldiers about the government’s will to defeat militants and bring security back to all citizens. His visit raised both military and international community support against terrorism.

The Prime Minister steps off the desk to help at the battlefront where he works alongside SNA and allied military personnel to eliminate Al-Shabaab militants.

What Challenges Remain in the Fight Against Terrorism?

Despite these advancements, challenges persist. Al-Shabaab fighters still conducts assaults as proven by their most recent attack on the Cairo Hotel in Beledweyne which harmed civilians.
