South African pacer Dwaine Pretorius announces retirement from international cricket

Dwaine Pretorius, a South African professional and famous cricketer, has announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.

In a statement on Cricket South Africa’s official website, he said that he wanted to focus on T20 and other shorter formats of cricket. He also said that it was a tough decision to step away from international cricket.

The 33-year-old cricketer reportedly said, “I am shifting my focus to T20 and other shorter formats for the rest of my career.” He further thanked everyone, including his coaches, teammates, friends and family for supporting him.

His statement from Cricket South Africa read, “Being a free agent will help me achieve the goal of being the best short format player I can be.” He further added, “I would like to thank everyone who played a big role in my career.”

The cricketer has played in all three formats in 30 T20Is, 27 ODIs and 3 Tests since making his debut in the cricket world in 2016. He has also been part of two World Cup squads for South Africa.

The professional cricketer also holds the South Africa T20I record for best bowling figures (5 for 17 against the Pakistan team). Last year, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. The Colombo Stars also signed him for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League.
