Spain, Morocco and Portugal promise a “historic” 2030 World Cup

In a ceremony held at the Portuguese Football Federation’s headquarters in Oeiras, near Lisbon, the heads of the football federations of Spain, Morocco, and Portugal presented their unified vision for the 2030 World Cup.

Unprecedented in its scope, this World Cup will be the first to span multiple continents, with Portugal, Spain, and Morocco as the organizing countries. Last year, their joint bid stood as the sole candidate.

The aim is clear: to organize the most exceptional and memorable World Cup in FIFA’s history and in the annals of football. The shared objective revolves around creating a unique event that intertwines sport, civilization, and human values. As Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Moroccan Federation of soccer, affirmed, “It’s about three countries, three nations, two continents.”

Ambitious Goals for a Planetary Football Festival

The collaboration of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco marks a momentous occasion for the grandest football celebration on Earth. It is not just the coming together of three nations but also the convergence of two continents—Africa and Europe—taking on the challenge of jointly hosting a football world championship. The prospect is exhilarating, with a well-coordinated symbiosis. This edition of the World Cup aspires to be etched in history by the trio of host countries.

Fernando Sanz, representing the President of the Steering Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, emphasized their shared commitment to shaping a World Cup that transcends generations, a tournament that leaves an indelible mark on the future. “We are working hand in hand with two neighboring countries to create a unique World Cup,” he declared.

Modern Stadiums and Unparalleled Conditions

The joint effort promises to deliver modern and iconic stadiums across the three countries, providing the best possible environment for both matches and fans. The focus is on offering top-notch conditions that will enhance the experience and enjoyment of all who attend. These state-of-the-art facilities will also be utilized by teams and referees during their preparation, with a constant pursuit of excellence.

A Centenary Celebration and South American Participation

While Portugal and Morocco are hosting a World Cup for the first time, Spain previously took charge of the tournament in 1982. In addition to Africa and Europe, South America will also play a significant role in this World Cup, which is widely regarded as the “best shared” edition in history. The opening three matches are scheduled to be held in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay—countries that hold a special place in the history of the competition.

The objective is to commemorate the centenary of the inaugural edition of the world’s premier football event, which took place in Uruguay in 1930. In a nod to this historical significance, the opening ceremony of the 2030 World Cup will be held in Montevideo.

With a joint vision, a commitment to excellence, and a celebration of football’s heritage, the collaboration between Spain, Morocco, and Portugal sets the stage for a truly remarkable 2030 World Cup.
