Sports: Kaizer Chiefs Returns To Training

Last updated on September 11th, 2021 at 02:39 pm

Kaizer Chiefs have joined the growing list of Premier Soccer League clubs returning to training, the Siya crew being informed that the Glamour Boys have the green light.

Bobby Motaung, the Amakhosi football manager, said to the media last week that all the paperwork was submitted and subject to approval by the league’s Covid-19 compliance officer for a staggered return to training.

It would appear all is in order now, with Siya sources confirming that Chiefs welcomed players back to their Naturena headquarters as they prepare for the league resumption.

Chiefs are believed to have begun training over the weekend.

Samir Nurkovic, speaking on the Chiefs website on Friday, said he was ready for football – with limitations, as is now the case.

“I am definitely looking forward to training,” said Nurkovic, who is the club’s top goalscorer in the Absa Premiership this season.

“It has been a while since I last trained with the ball. As a professional, you cannot wait to get back on the pitch and do what is relevant to your passion of playing the game.”

The players, like all clubs, have been keeping fit through online training sessions, but now get to take to the field after nearly four months.

“At the end of the season, we normally have just one month off, but now it has been three months of no proper training,” added Nurkovic.

“This means as we resume training, we need to be cautious. We will be guided by the technical team and coaching staff as we ease our way back. It will be crucial for us to be mentally tough in the days ahead.”
