Sports: Karabo Molefe Opens Up On Journey To Promotion

A youngster from Kaizer Chiefs has explained how his life has changed since being promoted to the first Amakhosi team.

Karabo Molefe was promoted to Chiefs’ first team set-up back in February 2019, when he was just 16 and spoke to Amakhosi’s official website, the young goalkeeper opened up about his upbringing and the journey that led him to becoming part of one of Mzansi ‘s largest clubs.

I was born in Soweto (Dube) and lived there until I was around 5. I live in the Johannesburg South now, “Molefe said.

“I was in Verney College, and I had to do home-schooling because of my elevation to the first team. I’m now via the Mulbarton Home School Centre, in Grade 11.

“I started playing soccer at Jabez Football (Coached by Lyle Bennet) when I was 7. When I was young I was pretty chubby (chuckles). My mother was very worried for my health – she then took it upon herself to pick a sport for me so I could lose weight and stay healthy.

My dad was also a football player back in the day, that’s why my mom chose football for me.

There were a lot of people who helped me develop and achieve this level as a football player.

My uncle (helper) who has been working for us since I was 6 when I had no transportation about 4 km away from home, used to walk me to school. If we had days off he would teach me at home. My uncle felt no one needs a day off before they have fulfilled their goals.
