Mamelodi Sundowns’ captain, Hlompho Kekana spoke highly of his head coach and the ambitions he’s had on the African continent.
Pitso Mosimane has built an incredible legacy at Sundowns, where he’s brought success to the club in both domestic and continental form.
The 55-year-old recently put pen to paper on a new four-year contract at the Brazilians, on his way to becoming the longest serving coach at the club.
Speaking in this week with KnowAfrika, Kekana divulged on how Mosimane carried his ambitions throughout all his coaching stints and also explained how he was not given enough time at the helm of the South African national team.
“The Champions League space is a space the coach had always liked. You could see that he was going to be an African champion one day, because when he was with SuperSport, he was in the Champions League (group stages),” the Sundowns captain said.
“In the first year we played with the coach in the Champions League at Sundowns, we were knocked out by TP Mazembe (before the group stages). He told us that’s where we need to measure and test ourselves as a team if we want to grow. I remember the TP Mazembe coach at the time spoke about how we were the team that gave them a tough time in the competition that year,” he added.
