Twitter introduces long format video upload feature for paid subscribers

Twitter is gearing up to take on YouTube as it introduces a long-format video upload feature for verified members of the microblogging site.

On Thursday, Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter, announced that Twitter Blue subscribers can upload 2-hour long videos on the microblogging site. Twitter videos have upscaled from 2GB to 8GB now.

Elon Musk talked about long-format videos on Twitter. He wrote on Twitter, “Twitter Blue Verified subscribers can now upload 2-hour videos (8GB)!”

According to TechCrunch, a US-based Tech portal, the new feature has been limited only to paid Twitter users. According to the report, Twitter has expanded the previous 60-minute limit to two hours in length. However, the maximum quality for video upload still remains 1080p.

Twitter also modified its Twitter Blue page. Earlier, longer video uploads were only possible from the web. Now, it is possible to upload longer videos from Twitter’s iOS application version.

Twitter users are reportedly happy with this decision. Some users also took to Twitter to share their excitement. A person wrote on Twitter, “Twitter is the new Netflix.” Another user wrote, “Welcome to Tweetube.” Another user wrote, “Long videos are good, and I hope you focus on them as an alternative to YouTube. Short videos are bad. I hope you don’t imitate tik tok, shorts and reels.”

Twitter brought the long video upload feature in December 2022 for web users. Twitter made several modifications to make it available in the iOS app.

Last week, Elon Musk named Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter. Musk said that she would primarily focus on business operations. Yaccarino said that she would work with Musk to turn Twitter into the Everything app.

Musk bought Twitter for USD 44 billion in October last year. Consequently, Musk pledged to turn Twitter into the Everything app.
