Bluesky, a tech startup with the aim of developing a decentralized social network protocol and an associated social networking service, backed by Jack Dorsey, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Square and a co-founder and former CEO of Twitter, has introduced some proposals for new moderation and safety tooling.
The tech startup, which is Twitter’s rival, is presently working on new updates and safety tooling, including user lists and reply controls. Bluesky also introduced labelling, moderation controls, and hashtags.
While labelling and moderation controls will concentrate on moderator services and how they can address issues that tiny communities can’t, the company has claimed that user lists and reply controls can be utilized for community-driven moderation.
According to the company, the third tool, hashtags, can have a big impact on customising what users see. It will not be directly related to moderation.
Bluesky said in a blogpost, “The tooling we’re building for moderation tries to take into consideration how social spaces are formed and shaped through communities.”
The invite-only Bluesky is only available on Android. It provides a streamlined user experience where a person can utilize the plus button to add photos and 256 text to an existing post. Bluesky reached a milestone of 1,00,000 users and 3.19 million posts in May. It was initially launched to iOS users in February.
In order to encourage community-driven moderation and provide individuals more control over their interactions on the app, user lists and reply controls are used. On the other side, labelling and moderation controls concentrate on offering moderator services to address problems that a small number of people may experience.
Bluesky is a decentralized social media app conceptualized by Jack Dorsey and developed in parallel with the micro-blogging site Twitter. It offers a Twitter-like user interface with algorithmic choice.
