The United States of America has announced a US$45 million donation to Zimbabwe towards the provision of food aid in the upcoming lean season between October 2019 and March 2020.
The contribution was provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and will ensure that 360,880 rural households will have enough food to take them to the next harvest.
The contribution is in response to the United Nations’ (UN) Flash Appeal for humanitarian assistance.
Speaking during a press briefing on Tuesday, United States Ambassador Brian A. Nichols said:
The United States remains the largest bilateral donor to emergency humanitarian assistance in Zimbabwe and we are proud to be part of a coordinated response to the humanitarian situation.
We work closely with the UN and other donors to ensure that as many communities as possible are covered during this challenging time.
