Washington Sundar replaces Chahar for last two ODIs against SA

After complaining of back pain during the third and final T20I against the same opponents, Deepak Chahar has been replaced in India’s side for the remaining two ODIs against South Africa by all-rounder Washington Sundar.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which released the statement on Saturday, stated that Chahar will report to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, where the medical personnel will be in charge of monitoring him.

Chahar did not take part in the first ODI, which South Africa won in Lucknow.

Chahar is on the standby list for the T20 World Cup in 2022, so the Indian team management will be hoping that he can recuperate in time for the important competition.

Especially after his outstanding T20I performances against South Africa and Mohammed Shami’s exclusion from the T20I series against Australia and South Africa due to COVID-19, Chahar was competing to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the starting lineup when the star pacer was forced to withdraw from the competition due to a back injury.

With a 1-0 advantage over the Indian squad, South Africa will be aiming to win the ODI series on October 9 in Ranchi. On Sunday in the capital of Jharkhand, a different group of players will take the field because the majority of team India’s players have already begun training in Australia for the T20 world cup.

In a press conference on Saturday, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj addressed a few crucial issues and noted that Tabraiz Shamsi just took a day off in Lucknow, which is unimportant because he remains their primary bowler.

Maharaj continued, “The team needs more refining in the shortest version of the game because their performance in the T20I series against India was not up to par.”

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) is hosting an ODI in Ranchi after a three-and-a-half-year hiatus, and the supporters can’t wait. There were lengthy lines outside the ticket booth at JSCA stadium because Saturday was the final day to purchase tickets.
