Although Jadon Sancho’s performance for Borussia Dortmund against PSG was superb, now is not the time to start clamouring for his participation in the Euros or his return to Manchester United. Sancho has faced significant challenges over the past two years and it would be premature to put undue pressure on him.
Sancho’s interview with Jamie Carragher on CBS Sports was a highlight after the game. Carragher, who had consumed eight pints of beer during the match, gave a lively and somewhat bewildered interview. The interview summed up the chaotic and distracting elements that have affected Sancho’s career, with voiceovers and Sancho looking somewhat uncomfortable in the spotlight.
One of the questions asked concerned Sancho’s hopes of being recalled to the England national team for the Euros. Although Sancho responded appropriately, the question raises several issues and distracts from the current reality of Sancho and England’s situation. It is unlikely to happen and, more importantly, would not be a wise decision for all.
