The Speaker of the National Assembly has called on African legislators to use their constitutional authority to enact laws that uphold African family values and national sovereignty. The Honorable Fabakary Tombong Jatta made these statements at the 2nd African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family Values and Sovereignty, which is currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda.
The conference theme is “The Emerging Global Challenges Threatening African Sovereignty, Family, and Values.” The conference will take place in Africa. He emphasized the negative impact of variables such as politics, tribalism, and religion, which, according to his observations, have been exploited in order to sow conflict and perpetuate violence all over the world, particularly in Africa.
Speaker Jatta emphasized the relevance of these steps and reminded lawmakers that it is their responsibility to establish robust institutions, implement robust laws, and establish oversight processes in order to protect themselves from the threats that are being presented. In order to accomplish this, he sought to increase awareness of the grave danger that illegal financial flows pose to the sovereignty of Africa.

He argues that because of these capital outflows, African economies lose vast sums of money, which denies governments the resources needed for the continent’s growth and service delivery. “These illegal activities, whether they be money laundering, tax evasion, or corruption, erode the fiscal integrity of our nations and feed poverty and inequality cycles.”
The Honorable Jatta reminded us that protecting the rights and interests of all citizens is a crucial part of preserving national sovereignty. Furthermore, he stated that this necessitates the preservation of democratic ideals, the guaranteeing of transparency and accountability, and the cultivation of an inclusive political culture in which all persons, regardless of their background or opinions, are able to engage in the democratic process in a significantly relevant way.
By enabling its people and erecting robust, responsive institutions, Africa can strengthen the foundations of its sovereignty and pave the way for a more prosperous and equitable future for all. He so posed a challenge to the conference goers, telling them to take advantage of the chance to restate their support for African sovereignty, family values, and a better future.
