In a recent social media post on Trusth Social US President Donald Trump offered fast-track US citizenship to South African farmers. He targeted new South African land laws, he said that this allowed the government to seize farmland without compensation, hurting white farmers in particular.
Trump stated, “Any farmer with a family seeking safety from these policies will be invited to the United States with a rapid path to citizenship.”
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa strongly rejected Trump’s comments. Ramaphosa said the land reforms are designed to address historic inequalities and provide fair opportunities for all South Africans.
This controversial offer from the side of Trump is coming during a time when both nations are facing difficult situations in bilateral relations. South Africa continues its efforts to balance redress and stability, and the US announced to cut all US aid to South Africa after Trump’s order.
