12 Killed, 45 Injured in Tragic Johannesburg Bus Rollover

A bus crashed on Tuesday near OR Tambo International Airport leaving twelve people dead and injuring forty-five others. First responders discovered the bus lay tilted on its side close to the highway edge once they arrived at the crash site.

William Nthladi from Ekurhuleni Emergency Management announced that nine males and three females lost their lives along with two victims stuck under the bus. Emergency responders attempted to lift the bus back to check if further casualties remained trapped under its wreckage. Despite the crash, the driver survived to receive medical treatment at local hospitals.

The bus traveled from Katlehong township to Johannesburg before the solo vehicle crash. Police officials started an investigation into the wreck while waiting to identify the reasons behind this accident.

Officials have not shared information about how seriously the victims in hospitals were hurt. The crash became the most fatal transport accident in the area throughout 2019.
