Sudan is still having one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world, with millions of people in need of help because of war and forced migration. Together with Ethiopia, the African Union (AU), and IGAD, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held a High-Level Humanitarian Conference for the People of Sudan in Addis Ababa on February 14, 2025. This was an important step in showing their resolve.
A Big Promise for 2025
The UAE promised an extra $200 million at the meeting to help people in need in Sudan. With this new promise, the country has given a total of US$600.4 million in help since April 2023. In the past ten years, it has given more than US$3.5 billion.

The UAE’s efforts to build peace and diplomacy in Sudan
In addition to giving money, the UAE has also played a major political role:
- In the year 2020, the UAE helped rebel groups in Sudan talk to each other, which led to a peace agreement.
- In 2021 UAE started a relationship with Sudan to modernize their government to help keep things stable and help them fit into regional and international systems.
- Back in 2022 UAE applauded the framework agreement between the parties in Sudan to end the transitional time and make things better for everyone.
