In Lagos, Wizkid’s Detty December Fest 2026 opening night is set for Friday, December 18, and the Grammy-winning Afrobeats star is the first headliner confirmed for the festival. The opening concert
The grand opening concert starts at 6 p.m. at the Detty December Village and will be held on the main Festival Stage. Wizkid, whose full name is Ayodeji Balogun, returns to the Detty December stage while he works on his seventh studio album. His 2024 album Morayo was followed this year by the joint EP Real, Vol. 1 with Asake. Wizkid has been here before: he headlined Lagos’s Flytime Fest in 2017 and 2018.
Opening with Wizkid is a signal about ambition. Livespot360 is placing the festival among the major stops in the global calendar for African music, and putting a name of his stature on night one sets the tone for everything that follows.
A second stage and a bigger festival
Detty December is Nigeria’s year-end season of parties, concerts, food and fashion, when Lagos fills with visitors from the diaspora and abroad. This year’s edition adds a second stage. Wizkid will open the flagship Festival Stage, while the new Pulse Stage is set aside for emerging artists and fresh sounds that organisers say are shaping the future of African music.
The festival launched last year and drew more than 40,000 people. That lineup included Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Shenseea, Tiwa Savage, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Qing Madi and Ice Prince, with Wizkid himself on the bill.
Livespot360, the company that produced Cardi B’s first performances in Nigeria and Ghana, is producing the festival again. Organisers said more headliners would follow, so the opening night is only the start of the lineup story.
The 13-day format also gives the festival room for more than concerts, with organisers pointing to music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment experiences across the run.
Tickets and what to know
Tickets and festival passes are on sale through the official ticketing partner, DOT Tix, and on the festival’s website, dettydecfest.com. Entry-level tickets for the opening night start at ₦50,000, roughly $38, according to one report on the event.
For fans planning a trip, the dates are worth locking in early. The festival runs across two stages for nearly two weeks, so travellers can build a visit around the opening concert or pick other nights as more names are confirmed. Ticket prices and availability can change, so buyers should check the official site before booking.
