The world’s first robot-human press conference took place in Geneva, the second-most populous city in Switzerland, on Friday. Nine AI-enabled humanoid robots talked about various topics.
AI robots were asked questions at the AI For Good United Nations summit. They were asked if they would rebel against humans. They said that they had no intention of overthrowing or replacing them. Robots said that they would work alongside humans to assist them.
AI robots took questions from reporters in their first ever press conference. They were sitting alongside their creators in Geneva. They responded to questions in real time with occasional lapses or delays.
Sophia, a social humanoid robot developed by the Hong Kong-based company Hanson Robotics, “I believe that humanoid robots have the potential to lead with a greater level of efficiency and effectiveness than human leaders.”
The world’s first robot citizen and the first robot Innovation Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme, Sophia, also said that humans and AI working together “can create an effective synergy.”
Grace, who is the world’s most advanced humanoid health care robot, said, “I will be working alongside humans to provide assistance. My creator has been nothing but kind to me and I am very happy with my current situation.”
In May this year, Geoffrey Hinton, a British-Canadian cognitive psychologist and computer scientist, warned scientists to not further expand AI “until they have understood whether they can control it.”
Last month, Yann LeCun, a Turing Award winning French computer scientist, said that AI wouldn’t take over the world or destroy jobs forever.
Yann LeCun, who works as the chief AI scientist at Meta, said, “Will AI take over the world? No, this is a projection of human nature onto machines.”
