French-Senegalese filmmaker Mati Diop emerged as the recipient of the top prize at the 74th Berlin Film Festival on Saturday evening. Her documentary film, “Dahomey,” was awarded the prestigious Golden Bear for Best Film.
“Dahomey” is a compelling feature-length film that delves into the restitution of 26 royal treasures to Benin in November 2021. These artifacts were looted by French colonial troops in 1892, and Diop’s film provides a historical and captivating account of this significant event.
