Bola Tinubu, the 16th and current president of Nigeria, has requested the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to give confirmation about the newly appointed service chiefs.
Tajudeen Abbas, the 15th and current Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria, read the president’s letter during the plenary in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.
Last month, the Nigerian president appointed Lt. Gen. Christopher Musa as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff; and Air Marshall Hassan Abubakar as the Chief of Air staff. Bola Tinubu appointed Olukayode Egbetokun as the Acting Inspector-General of Police.
The Nigerian president’s letter read, “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate the four nominees listed below. This informed the review of our defence architecture and appointment of new leaders to work in synergy with one another to achieve the level of optimal performance expected of the military.”
Bola Tinubu sent the names of service chiefs to the House of Representatives for confirmation. He urged the lawmakers to give confirmation of the appointment of the service chiefs. The President expressed hope that his request would receive “expeditious consideration.”
Meanwhile, the president suspended the newly introduced 10 per cent tax on single-use plastics and excise duty on domestically manufactured products to reduce the business costs.
Dele Alake, a Nigerian journalist, activist and technocrat, said that the Nigerian President signed executive orders suspending a green tax on single-use plastics. He told reporters, “The president issued these orders to ameliorate the negative impacts of the tax adjustments on businesses and chokehold on households across affected sectors.”
After sworning as the president, he promised to tackle insecurity in Nigeria. He also pledged to solve economic troubles and security challenges.
