David Adeleke, aka Davido, an American-born Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese professional and famous footballer who plays as a forward for and captains Saudi Arabia’s Professional League club Al Nassr and the Portugal national team, is his “very good friend.”
While appearing as a guest on the latest episode of a podcast, he revealed this information to everyone. Davido, who is the most-followed African musician on social media, opened up about his relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo, the most followed sportsman on Instagram.
The Nigerian singer said, “Look at Ronaldo… When he left the World Cup, he’s my friend by the way, he’s my very good friend. When Ronaldo left the world cup, I remember like being on the internet, and they were abusing him so much….after everything he has done. That’s my greatest fear.”
Davido is the only Nigerian musician followed by Cristiano Ronaldo on Instagram. The Nigerian singer has always appreciated the talent of Cristiano Ronaldo.
In 2017, the Nigerian singer paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo in his hit song ‘Fall,’ which became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history. It was a top-10 record on Shazam in New York in 2019. “Fall” was also ranked 163rd on Pitchfork’s list of the 200 Best Songs of the 2010s. It has over 82 million streams on Spotify as of May 2023.
It also received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and gold certification from Music Canada.
Davido was away from the media for a long time after the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi, who died in October 2022 after drowning in a swimming pool at his residence in Lagos, Nigeria’s largest city.
In April of this year, he performed at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos. The concert attracted a huge number of fans.
