England’s Ben Foakes appreciates century against South Africa

Ben Foakes, the wicketkeeper for England, was thrilled to have reached his second Test century in the current match between South Africa and England at Old Trafford in Manchester. The Three Lions took a commanding first innings lead of 264 runs thanks in large part to Foakes, who finished unbeaten on 113 with nine fours.

Along with Ben Stokes, who scored his first century as England’s Test captain, Foakes shared a 173-run partnership.

After Kagiso Rabada removed Stokes, Stuart Broad thrashed his bat about to get 21 runs off 14 balls, and Foakes put together a valuable 41-run stand with him.

Meanwhile, the 29-year-old Foakes ranked his century higher than the one he made against Sri Lanka in Galle four years prior.

“It was incredible. Being on the periphery and receiving the occasional opportunity has made the road since my debut interesting. I appreciate getting 100 now more than I did my first one,” Foakes was reported as saying on BBC Test Match Special.

Foakes believed that England was in control of the current game. South Africa is down by 241 runs at the end of the second day of play with all of its wickets still intact.

“We’re in a great situation, and maybe the worse wicket will work in our favour. There are a few cracks, and it wouldn’t be the worst thing for us if they appeared,” he continued.

As the match enters its fourth day, Dean Elgar and Sarel Erwee, South Africa’s overnight hitters, have their work cut out for them.
