The Duke and Duchess of Susse, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were invited to Nigeria by the country’s Chief of Defence Staff as part of his promotion of a sporting event he founded for injured military veterans, the Invictus Games.
arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday morning. The visit follows Harry’s recent trip to the UK to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Although he invited members of his family, including his father King Charles, brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton to attend a service at St Paul’s Cathedral, none of them were present. Meghan joined him, and together they travelled to Nigeria.
On Friday, the couple will visit a school and meet the Chief of Defence Staff. Harry will meet injured military personnel at a military hospital.
On Saturday, they will attend a training session for the organisation Nigeria: Unconquered and a reception hosted by the Chief of Defence Staff in honour of military families. Later, Meghan will co-host a ‘Women in Leadership’ event with Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

On Sunday, they will attend a basketball game with African giants, a cultural reception, and a polo fundraiser for Nigeria: Unconquered.
During their time as royals, Harry and Meghan have travelled on several official international tours. In 2018, shortly after their royal wedding, they visited Australia, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, and Tonga. In February 2019, while expecting their son Archie, they toured Morocco and then visited South Africa with their son.
Harry and his wife Megan will also meet service personnel and take part in a variety of cultural activities. The visit will highlight the Invictus Games, which Harry participated in last year in Germany with 500 athletes from 21 countries, including Nigeria.
The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who participated in last year’s event in Germany, has indicated Nigeria’s readiness to host the games if given the opportunity.
At the Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany last year, Meghan and Harry interacted with the Nigerian team, with Harry mentioning that his wife was supporting him in his opening speech.
