Following the success of its ‘Code with HONOR’ programme in the townships and rural areas of KwaZulu-Natal, which began earlier this year, HONOR Technologies Africa recently donated devices worth R300,000 to the Technology Youth Development Agency (TYDA). The TYDA works with schools in Limpopo and Mpumalanga to improve the digital skills of young people.
Among the stakeholders present at the ceremony were Ally Tumelo Mphahlele, Founding Director of TYDA, Mncedi Ndzwanana, Chairman of Tshwane City Council, as well as representatives from the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Arts and Culture.
Commenting on the transformative power of technology, Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR, said: ‘Our partnerships with stakeholders and not-for-profit organisations dedicated to improving access to digital skills and resources are an integral part of our mission to create a smart world for all. We aim to reach as many children as possible, providing them with skills and knowledge.’
HONOR’s Head of Public Affairs and Government Relations, Slindokuhle Mbuyisa, explained the vision: ‘Townships and rural areas are the “greener pastures” par excellence, but we need a vision to unlock their potential. It permeates the design of our products and initiatives.
