Netflix has officially renewed the second season of the hit supernatural comedy horror series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character.
In a new video, Netflix confirmed season 2 of Wednesday. Netflix reportedly said, “It’s official: Wednesday Season 2 is coming.” Subsequently, the lead actress Jenna Ortega wrote on Twitter, “Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible.” Netflix also shared the teaser of the second season of Wednesday.
Wednesday is based on the character Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family, a 1991 comedy horror series. The first season of Wednesday consists of eight episodes. The popular series garnered nearly 341.2 million hours of viewership within the first week of release.
The series revolves around the Nevermore Academy. The story is about local mysteries and the supernatural world. It follows the journey of Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy.
Apart from Jenna Ortega, the series also featured Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Percy Hynes White, Hunter Doohan, Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Naomi J. Ogawa, Moosa Mostafa, Georgie Farmer, Riki Lindhome, Christina Ricci, among others. Percy Hynes White played the role of Xavier Thorpe, a fellow student at Nevermore Academy. Fans loved the chemistry between Wednesday and Xavier.
The first season of Wednesday received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Jenna Ortega also received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy.
Showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar announced happiness over the renewal of Wednesday season 2. They reportedly said, “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world.” They said that the show would continue bringing new mysteries in season two. The second season would emphasise Wednesday’s relationships with her mother Morticia and friend Enid.
