Mauritania: Top Critic Return From Exile

Top Critic of the government Limam Chaffi, who particularly criticised former president of Mauritania Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, has returned from exile.

Chaffi has been in exile for close to a year outside the shores of the country returned after the election of a new president who took over from Aziz.

Chaffi’s return focuses to changing political elements in Nouakchott.

“We think it is another page that is opening up in which all Mauritanians will have their place”, said Chaffi as he addressed correspondents at his home.

Under the current president Mohamed Ould Ghezouani, Mauritania has liberated or dropped charges against pundits of the previous system and permitted noticeable banished figures to return.

Former high ranking general Mohamed Ould Ghezouani, became president in late 2019, Ghezouani succeeded Aziz in Mauritania. Which marked the first peaceful election and the smooth transition of power in the country.
